The Tanaka's 2003 Christmas Letter

Merry Christmas
We'd like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a wonderful new year. We pray that this coming season will bring you happiness and joy as we celebrate the birth of Christ.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:10-14)

Stephanie
Stephanie turned 4 this year. We are already feeling like empty-nesters because next year she will start kindergarten. We already applied to a school, but have to wait for them to interview Stephanie before we know if she gets in. Stephanie had a busy year at her current school however. Among the trips they took, they went to Disney on Ice to see Mickey and the gang on skates. Daddy was unable to go due to work, but Mommy and Stephanie had a wonderful time. One day a fire truck with real firefighters came to her school to teach about fire safety. All the kids got to sit in the fire truck and see all the different pieces of equipment that a firefighter uses to put out a fire. For a long time after that, she wanted to be a firefighter when she grows up.

A Visit from the Firefighters
As usual, we had a number of family get-togethers. One highlight was a trip to visit Stephanie's cousins in Detroit. Stephanie always looks forward to that trip so she can see and play with her cousins. Mommy and Daddy enjoy the trip too because it's a chance to catch up with family whom we don't see very often. This year's visit was extra special because we got to see a brand new cousin who was just 6 months old.

This year, in February, we decided to have a Holiday party at our house. It ended up being mostly for the kids, but I think we all had a good time. Here we are playing Pinata.

One of the highlights of the year was a reunion we had with our former church youth groups. We haven't seen many of the people for twenty years. We were amazed how people still looked the same (some with less hair though). As part of the reunion, the old group "Togethers" got together to lead a few of the old youth group songs from the 70's. We all had a great time talking about the good old days and sing songs our kids never heard of.

For Mother's Day , we had a barbeque at our house and invited some friends over as well. It was an extra special day because we also celebrated Mark's father's birthday, who ironically, was born on Mother's Day.

Mom, how much wiser are we now ?
A Sister for Stephanie
Late last year (2002), Mommy and Daddy decided that it would be nice to have another rugrat wreaking havoc around the house. So in January, we started putting our paperwork in order to adopt another girl from China. The paperwork involved, among other things, getting fingerprinted, writing an autobiography, taking family pictures, getting copies of our marriage license, etc. We finally finished our paperwork in April (yes it took nearly 4 months) and now are waiting for a match to happen.

We are expecting to be matched in late January or early February, 2004 and expect to travel to China in March or April. We are very excited about prospect of a sister for Stephanie so she'll have someone else to boss around instead of her parents and we are praying daily for her. We believe God has already matched us up with the perfect little person. All we need to do now is think of a name which we all can agree on. Keep your eye on this website for updates.
